Spring Release Brings New Flow Features To Improve Salesforce Development
By Team TIS

Whenever Salesforce releases a new version of any application, the attention of Salesforce developers is immediately drawn to the updates that have been made to Flows. With its wide range of uses in the development process, it is undisputed that Flows is a valuable tool for developers. For all Salesforce developers, it is time to take a closer look at the new features that have been released in the Spring release of Flow.

Flow is now ready to replace Process Builder in Salesforce, so it’s a great time to take advantage of some of the Flow features that may optimize the productivity of Salesforce developers as well as enhance the quality and performance of the Salesforce development process.

It is important to understand the features that are included in the Spring release of Salesforce Flow before you start using it to the full potential. In this blog, we will take a look at the newly released features you can access with Flows.

Our team has filtered through dozens of updates, and we have selected some of the finest features that you can access with Flow and which will assist you in improving your skills as a developer.

  1. Switch to Flow from Process Builder with ‘Migrate to Flow’:

In order to assist users with the transition from Process Builder to Flow, Salesforce has created the Migrate to Flow tool. By making equivalent Flows from process builder procedures, the tool is built to make it more convenient for you to move from one automated tool to the next.

You can access Migrate to Flow by clicking on the Setup menu, then choosing Processes you need to migrate to the main page of Flow, and then clicking on the Migrate to Flow button. A Salesforce integration service provider can also assist you in gaining access to this feature if you need help.

  1. Just a Few Clicks to Connect Data:

It is now easier to connect to external data, just with a few clicks instead of struggling with complex code, using the updated release. If you want to pull external data into Flows easily, you can use HTTP Callouts to facilitate the process. As part of the process, you need to enter the information related to the API you would like to interact with. After that, you will be able to use the Action that was developed by the Flow Builder straight away.

  1. Updated Tooltips for Updated Flow Features:

This is great news for minimalist design fans – there are even more improvements for the release of Spring ’23! By default, the extensive outlines of Flow components that are relevant only in the initial stages of operating the tool have been hidden in order to reduce the amount of clutter. Hovering over the information icon will still give you access to them.

Also, the logic elements have been given a new color, a darker orange color in order to differentiate them from the other elements on the page.

  1. Flow helps you Avoid “Iteration Limit Exceeded” Errors:

Before this release, if you built a loop in a Flow that triggered Flow elements that exceeded the limit of 2000, the error message “ITERATION_LIMIT_EXCEEDED” would pop-up. Regardless of whether or not you reached runtime limits, such as the amount of SOQL queries or DML statements that you can perform, you would still receive this message.

In a single transaction, you had to load 2,000 individual Flow elements, which could be very frustrating and tedious. With improvements to Salesforce’s runtime limits over time, this limitation and error message was removed in Spring ’23 as a result of improvements to Salesforce. Additionally, these adjustments preserve Salesforce’s resources in an effective way, allowing you to build your Flows in a more flexible and free way.

  1. Implement Interactive Screen Elements:

Flow Screens will now be updated according to actions from corresponding elements in Spring ’23, which is a much-anticipated feature. In order to make the experience even more seamless, different Flow components now communicate and exchange information without the need to click on “Next” and render a new page, resulting in a seamless transition.

The feature, however, is still in beta and requires you to opt-in to use it. In the Setup menu, under Process Automation Settings, you will find a checkbox that allows you to opt in to process automation. For a better understanding and access to this feature, you may want to hire a Salesforce developer who will be able to help you.

  1. Screen Flows Access with Lookup Fields:

There is no doubt that this updated feature has been awaited by many Salesforce developers for quite some time. The Spring ’23 update makes it even easier for you to add Standard Lookup Fields and Custom Lookup Fields to your screen flow. You are now able to drag and drop your current Lookup Fields from your Objects straight onto your screen flows with just a few clicks. This is a better solution than combining the Object Fields feature with the Custom Lookup Screen component. The user will be able to streamline the procedure and save time as a result of this feature.

  1. Dynamic Forms with Upgraded Multi-Select Picklists:

There are several views about Multi-Select Picklists among Salesforce professionals. In spite of this, we can all agree that the user experience would be enhanced if Multi-Select Picklists were displayed in Screen Flows in a cleaner and more user-friendly manner.

The great news is that in the new update, Dynamic Forms for ScreenFlow now incorporates Multi-Select Picklists. As an additional feature, there are also multi-select picklists available as options for the Checkbox Group and Multi-Select Choice components, which makes it more convenient for users to interact with and select multiple values at the same time.

  1. Explicit Access not needed for Apex Classes:

As a result of the Spring ’23 update, you will no longer encounter flow failures due to the running user not being granted access to an Apex Class that the flow references. Originally introduced as part of the Summer 20 release, this function is now incorporated throughout. The most effective way to resolve this issue is to enable this update as soon as possible if you’ve been experiencing this issue. This will prevent any further disruptions to your account.

  1. Flow Canvas Element Descriptions:

There is a great deal of importance in documenting flows. In most cases, however, you will be able to achieve this by providing a clear description in the Description field of your Flow elements. In addition, you will be able to offer clear guidance. The Spring ’23 update makes this process even easier by simplifying some of the steps involved.

In the Element’s Description field, you can now access the value of the Element’s Description by hovering over the Description icon. The feature simplifies the user interface by clearing excess information and implementing intuitive design choices, resulting in a better end user experience by enhancing the user interface.

  1. Implement Flows with REST API with User Permissions:

In the past, you were able to call flows using REST APIs. You can now access the flow based on the permissions of the running user with the Spring ’23 update. Consequently, the flow will only be able to access objects and fields that are defined at a field level by the permissions given by the running user.
